AnswerSquad to the rescue

For monthly subscription, computer experts will try to untangle PC problems

BOULDER -- Don't beat the hell out of your computer just yet. Answers may be all you need to keep the love alive between you and your PC. And those answers are waiting for you in the form of a new company called -- aptly enough -- AnswerSquad.com.

Think of it as the Dr. Phil for troubled computer users.

As its name suggests, the company is made up of a squad of experts who've banded together to shell out answers to computer users who are fed up with user manual gibberish and companies that say they'll help but somehow fall short.

Boulder-based entrepreneur and author Dave Taylor decided a few months ago he had the answer to keep the flames of love hot between PCs and their owners. That's when he began building AnswerSquad.com, and he officially launched the company last month. Taylor thinks it just may be the answer to keeping computers from being beaten senseless or tossed out windows.

Here's how it works. You're a computer user, and you decide you like user manuals about as much as slicing your own Achilles tendon. And the help the manufacturer has enlisted reminds you of the Three Stooges. So you go to AnswerSquad.com and subscribe for $49.99 a month (although as this article was going to press, the site had a $25 per month special).

Taylor says that gives you unlimited access to the squad -- you can ask as many questions as you want and discuss any tech topics directly with the squad and other list members -- all in a "friendly and jargon-free" environment.

As for actually reaching a human being, Taylor says AnswerSquad members are online and monitoring the list "just about every weird hour of the day and night," so subscribers are "never left waiting for tech support to open on Monday morning."
